Last Saturday night was a great night for hockey, as the Wildcats played host to the Reading Reign. From the first puck drop, the Wildcats attacked and dominated the Reign until the final buzzer. The Wildcats were clicking on all cylinders as they provided strong offensive pressure, solid defense and several newsreel-worthy saves from their goalie.

Now for the game action. Forward Meghan Benson opened the scoring at 11:05 with the assist going to Kim Griggs. Meghan scored again only a few minutes later with defenseman Jenny Spencer assisting. Forward Michele Forte closed the first period with goal #3. In the 2nd period, defenseman Eve Borner scored her 2nd goal of the season with a hard shot from the face-off circle. The Reign answered back shortly afterwards. Four goals came in the 3rd period alone. Meghan Benson and defenseman Margaret Moran scored two unassisted goals early on. Laura Zdenahlik tipped a rebound from Kim Griggs into the open corner of the net, putting the Wildcats up 7 on the Reign. In the final minute of the game, Karen Frost, assisted by Margaret Moran and Meghan Benson, quickly buried the puck after the face-off in the offensive zone making the final score, 8-1.

The Wildcats had a total of 31 shots and were assessed the only penalty of the game when Casey Arnett was sent to the sin-bin on a minor hooking call. Goalie Anita Wray robbed the Reign several times demonstrating her best Dominik Hasek moves in the crease.  Finally, congratulations go out to Meghan Benson on her first hat trick of the season.  All in all, it was a fun and great game for the Cats!

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Frederick, MD to take on the Firestorm on Sunday, Dec. 2. Game time is 5:10 p.m. Hope to see you there!
