Saturday night the Wildcats played host to the Baltimore Blizzard in the season opener at the Cabin John Ice Rink.  The Wildcats came out of the corner ready for a fight, and eagerly took the ice, hungry to start their season off with a win.

The Wildcats were given the chance to put their defensive strength to the test early on, as the Blizzard came out strong the first period, until the tide turned, and it became the Wildcats' turn to pour on the offense.  The battle waged back and forth, and at the end of 15 minutes, the score was 0-0.

Action during the second period heated up, as the Blizzard were the first to go on the board. The Wildcats were not discouraged and fought hard.  On every shift, every line saw ample scoring opportunities which only energized an ever-determined Cats squad.  Their efforts finally paid off in the final minute of the period when forward Laura Zdenahlik, after receiving a pass from Krista Ehlert in the Neutral zone, shot the puck over the shoulder of the Blizzard goaltender and squarely into the back of the net.  Persistence finally rewarded, the Wildcats were on the board!

The battle continued back and forth during the third period with the Cats continuing their quest for the win.  Opportunity presented itself twice in the form of power plays; however despite their best efforts, the Wildcats were unable to score the tie-breaking goal needed to put a "W" in the win column.  Even though the game ended in a tie, it was a fun, fantastic game and it started the Wildcats off on a positive note for the season.  Way to go Cats!!!
