The Wildcats traveled to Frederick for a rematch that ended in a historic win for the team.  Sunday's 1-0 win marked the first time in over 5 years the Wildcats have been able to win a game against the Frederick Firestorm.  The Cats came close last season with a tied game, but finally cleared the hurdle Sunday, earning a solid "W" in the win column.

The Firestorm came out strong the first period, but the Wildcats kept up with a solid defensive game and the period ended scoreless.  The tide turned during the second period, and the Wildcats turned up the heat while maintaining good defense against the Firestorm offensive onslaught.  With 1:40 left in the period, center Michele Forte netted the first goal on a nifty move when she reversed direction behind the net and potted the puck on a sweet wrap-around.  According to sources from within the Wildcats' organization, during the first intermission the coach tried to light a fire under his team, calling for his players to step up and help their goalie, Margaret Bartha, who was standing on her head to keep her team in the game.  Whether or not it was an intermission speech, it became apparent immediately afterwards on the ice that the Wildcats started to believe they could win.

The third period turned into a nail-biter as the Wildcats fought to protect their lead.  The Wildcats' were assessed their only penalty of the game, when goalie Margaret came out of the crease in an attempt to poke check the puck away from the Firestorm player screaming towards her on a clean break away.  Officials penalized Margaret for delay of game.  Laura Zdenahlik served the penalty, which the Cats' PK unit easily killed off.  For the remainder of the game, the Wildcats played with fierce determination and spirit, which paid off at the final buzzer.  Final score was 1-0, with shots 25-3 in favor of the Firestorm.  Congratulations to Margaret on a spectacular performance and her first shutout of the season!

The Wildcats have a couple of bye weeks to prepare to take on the Washington Wolves on February 13.
