The Wildcats opened the 2016-17 season last Saturday (Oct. 15, 2016) at home against the Reading Reign.  The game proved a defensive battle with both goalies keeping their team in the game early.  Wildcats Center Lyne McCauley finally opened up the scoring midway through the first period with an unassisted power move on the doorstep to sneak the puck past the right goal post.  The defensive battle resumed until midway through the third period when WIldcats forward Michele Forte cleaned up the garbage in front of the net after a hard shot from Ines Schroeder bounced off the Reign goaltender, Forte jammed the loose puck under the goaltender's pads for a 2-0 Wildcat lead.  That insurance goal proved necessary as the Reign fired in a shot around the 12:00 minute mark of the third, to give them a spark.  However, the WIldcats played shut down defense for the remainder of the period to hang on to the win.  Anita Wray had an impressive performance in goal.  Next week, the Cats travel to Frederick on Sunday (Oct. 23, 2016) for an afternoon game with the Firestorm.
