Firestorm Forfeit, Wildcats Win Season

The Frederick Firestorm forfeited the last game of the season against the Wildcats due to a lack of players, giving the Wildcats the win and pushing them to the top as the MAWHL Senior D Division leader.

In the true spirit of hockey, the two teams decided to get together for a friendly scrimmage. Additional players from the Baltimore Blizzard were invited, which added to the fun and helped even out the benches.  Neither team had a goalie, so a player from each team strapped on the pads to ten...

Road Game Ends in Tie

The Wildcats traveled Saturday to Patterson Park in Baltimore to meet for the final time this season with the Blizzard.  High winds and brush fires reaped havoc on the area, snarling traffic and causing multiple road closures from Northern Virginia to Maryland for most of the day.  The Wildcats slowly and steadily made their way north from Virginia, and trickled in to the rink one by one, relieved to be off the road and eager to play some hockey.  The bench was short when the puck dropped at ...

Wildcats Blank Wolves

The Wildcats came away Sunday night with their second win against the Washington Wolves, winning the series with a record of 2-0-1.  The win marked the second in the Cats' last two games.

The Wildcats came out in the 1st period with a fierce determination to win.  Midway through the period, Wildcats' center Michele Forte opened the scoring as a result of a scrum in front of the net. Historic Win for Wildcats

The Wildcats traveled to Frederick for a rematch that ended in a historic win for the team.  Sunday's 1-0 win marked the first time in over 5 years the Wildcats have been able to win a game against the Frederick Firestorm.  The Cats came close last season with a tied game, but finally cleared the hurdle Sunday, earning a solid "W" in the win column.

Wildcats Fall to Lightning

Saturday night the Wildcats were handed their second defeat of the season by the Chesapeake Bay Lightning.  The 7-2 loss marked the second time these two teams met with their first meeting ending in a 1-1 tie last October.  This time the Lightning dominated the scoreboard in what proved to be a physical and hotly contested game.

Wildcats Roar To Victory

The Wildcats chalked up another "W" for the Win column Saturday night with a 10-0 victory over the Blizzard.  The Wildcats plowed through the Blizzard starting from the first puck-drop to the final buzzer without letting up.  It had been a month since their last game, so when the Cats hit the ice Saturday night, they were hungry to avenge the loss to the Firestorm.

Wildcats 3-2 Loss

The Wildcats suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 3-2 to the Frederick Firestorm Saturday night.  The Wildcats came out strong early, and scored the first goal of the game, after Margaret Bartha carried the puck end-to-end, and straight through the Firestorm defense.  Despite their strong start, the Cats could not maintain the intensity, and allowed three unanswered Firestorm goals.  The Wildcats managed to score another goal late in the third period, again from Margaret B...

The Wildcats got their first win in a big way Saturday night with an 8 - 1 victory over the Washington Wolves.  Wildcats' center Diane Sanders opened the scoring early with just 3 minutes into the game.  She was assisted by Margaret Bartha.  The Wildcats' penalty kill unit got their first opportunity less than a minute later when Krista Ehlert was given a hooking minor.  The PK unit kept up the pressure and as the last second of the penalty expired, Heather Meyer potted the puck with the ass...

Wildcats on a Roll

The Wildcats are on a roll.  For the third straight game, the Wildcats have come away with a tie. This weekend's game against the Chesapeake Bay Lightning was no exception.  When the Wildcats took the ice on Saturday night, it was anybody's game and anybody's guess as to the outcome.  This was the first time these two teams met, and neither knew what to expect from the other.

The Wildcats hosted the Washington Wolves Saturday night at Cabin John.  The Wildcats went into the game 0-0-1, and were hungry for their first win.

The Wildcats are ready to hit the ice tonight, and are looking for their first win of the season.  This time the Wildcats face the Washington Wolves in Saturday night's game at Cabin John.  The Wildcats last met the Wolves in the 2009-2010 playoffs, when they suffered a stunning loss.

Season Opener Ends in Tie

PWICE Announces New Rink

Today, rink owners made the long-awaited announcement that plans for rebuilding the Prince William Ice Center are finally moving forward.  Groundbreaking for the new rink will take place this November, with the grand reopening planned for July 2011.  After months of speculation and uncertainty, this is great news for the Prince William hockey community!  You can read the full announcement here.

October is finally here, and with it brings a new season of hockey for the Prince William Wildcats!  As the Wildcats prepare to take the ice as a team once again, there is a feeling of excitement and wild anticipation after months of loss and uncertainty.
